Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player in the world that I want up in that moment other than him with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
