Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
