Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
