The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
