The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
